ARTIST:
Andy Goldsworthy was born on the 26th of July, 1956 in Cheshire, England. He grew up on the Harrogate side of Leeds, West Yorkshire, in a ho wont edging the green bealt. Goldsworthy now lives and works in Scotland.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British Sculptor, photographer and environmentalist. He produces site- specific cutting and land art established in natural and urban settings.
At the age of thirteen Goldsworthy worked on farms as a labourer. He has compared the constant quality of farm tasks to the path of qualification sculpture. Andy Goldsworthy said, A lot of my work is like picking potatoes; you puddle to get into the rhythm of it.
Goldsworthy trained fine art at Bradford College of Art in 1974 to 1975 and also at Preston Polytechnic in 1975 to 1978. He received his Bachelor of humanities degree from the latter.
In 1993 Goldsworthy received an honorary degree by the University of Bradford. Andy Goldsworthy is currently and A.D vacuous Professor- At- Large at Cornell University.
Andy Goldsworthy won eight significant awards.
He won an award in 1979 North West arts Award, 1980 Yorkshire Arts Award, 1981 Yankee Arts Award, 1982 Northern Arts Award, 1986 Northern Arts Bursary, 1987 Scottish Arts Council Award, 1989 Northern Electricity Arts Award and in 2000 Appointed officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)
Goldsworthy was influenced by many people. They are Constantin Brâncu?i Richard Long, Robert Smithson, Joseph Beuys, Ben Nicholson, Paul Nash and David Nash.
ARTWORK:
In Andy Goldsworthys artworks the materials that he use generally include b skillfully- coloured flowers, icicles, leaves, mud, pinecones, snow, stone, twigs and thorns. He mainly uses his strip down hands, teeth, and found tools to prepare and arranged the materials.
