Micing up, Recording and Mastering of a Drum Kit.
Studio Operations: Drum Kit.
The first assignment for the Studio Operations module consisted of micing up an acoustic get equip out, routing the signals through a digital desk, using equalisation on the desk to get the castigate sounds and sending the drum track into a music alter suite (Logic Pro 9) to be mastered. The resulting track would be copied to c.d. as an audio track.
The first priority was to reassure that the drum kit was set up correctly (no parts touching for each one other) and there was no ringing or resonation coming from the kit when it was played. Fortunately the kit had been tuned correctly and any ringing or resonation had been cut out by rubber pads being stuck to the drum heads where needed. Various microphones were used on the different voices of the kit and lay in different positions so that optimal clarity and bracer was enabled.
An AKG D112 was used to record the bass drum of the kit. It was used because it is a dynamic cardioid mic. This mic works well for low frequency sounds as they have upper frequency-response limits. When used it was primed(p) a pair off of inches away from the hole in the drum head because it has a cardioid assembleup pattern meaning that it will pick up sound better from one direction.
The cabbage was micd up with a Shure SM57 unidirectional microphone. This mic is a dynamic cardioid mic and has been designed to pick up sounds and isolate them, therefore minimizing background noise. As the sn be is usually so close to the hi-hats this type of microphone is ideal. This was placed around 5cm away from, and above the head of the snare to ensure an even pick up of sound.
All three of the turkey cock drums used Samson QTOM microphones. Again, these are dynamic microphones, but they are also super-cardioid. This means that they offer a more ad hoc range of pick up and are the most antiphonal to feedback.
The hi-hats used a Samson CO2 capacitance microphone. These...If you want to get a full essay, order it on our website: Ordercustompaper.com
