The Exodus is a key event in Israels history. This event shaped Israels relationship with God. The ultimate defining and development of Israels relationship with God stems from three main events, as part of the Exodus, which occurred during this period in time: the Passover, the ford of the Red Sea and the Ten Commandments.
To understand the importance of The Exodus and these key events, one must first be do aware that the existence of the Israelites was governed by oppression, enslavement and persecution administered by the Egyptians.
The Exodus story begins with the enslavement of the Hebrews in Egypt (Boadt, 1984, p. 165). The story of Moses, whom God protected from premature death, (The Book of Readings, 1996, p. 33) is closely linked with the events of the Exodus. Moses was elect by God to deliver the Hebrews from oppression (Book of Readings, 1996, p. 33).
