In chapters 6-13 of A Separate Peace, Summer break is all over and ingredient goes back to Devon school. Finny is still at home recover from his accident and indirect requests agent to participate in sports because and train for the Olympics because he can non do that anymore because of his bum leg. Gene wants to get away from school and do something and his friend Brinker Hadley and him computer program to join the army. However Finny unexpectedly comes back to school. Because of this Gene decides non to join the army because he feels analogous he ask to stay at school and help Finny out because he is felonious about causing Finnys accident. Finny believes that the war does not exist and is something made up by old plop people to keep the young people from getting as well wild. Gene also starts to think that. However Leper Lepellier, a contrasted boy who likes collecting snails and skiing becomes the first boy at Devon to join the army. Leper cannot take the stress of being in the army and escapes, telling Gene to come visit him. Gene discovers that Leper has missed his mind and is crazy. Leper tells that he knows about what receivedly happened the day Finny bestial out of the tree. Gene then runs away and goes back to school, Leper on the Q.T. follows him.



Seeing Lepers craziness shows Finny that the war really is real because it has to be real if it can do terrible things like make people go crazy. Brinker Hadley decides to pretend to have a trial and questions Gene and Leper and Finny about how Finny fell out of the tree. The uprightness comes out that Gene caused the branch to shake, which made Finny fall. Finny does not want to accept this and leaves the room crying. As he is running pop up the stairs, he falls and breaks his leg again. Gene again feels guilty and visits Finny in the infirmary, and Finny is angry at him and doesnt want to suck in him, but the next day Finny apologizes and goes back to thinking that Gene is a good friend and that his fall was an accident.
